Arcade style controller for the Snes/PC
Published on 2005, by Raphael Assénat, ©Raphael Assénat.
The feeling you get when playing a game using an arcade style controller differs from the feeling of a gamepad or keyboard, and in my opinion is better for many games.
I met someone who buys old arcade cabinets to repair them, and upgrade them with a PC running mame. He had some spare parts such as buttons and joysticks. I got the idea to use them to build an arcade style controller for my SNES and PC.

Build Your Own Arcade Controls - Achilles SNES hack!
Published on 2005, by Achilles, ©Achilles.
What you're looking at is a modified Super Nintendo Controller! It plugs into the connector I built for my parallel port and features 8 Happ Horizontal Microswitch buttons, (6 for the actual games, and 2 for start and coin,) and a Happ Super 8 joystick, (which I'm VERY pleased with I might add). The box and control panel are made from 3/4" shelving material that I found at Home Base for like $6. The cool thing is that I didn't have to cover it with anything! I'm in the process of building another one of these contraptions so that two people can play, or you could stick them side by side for 2-joystick games. The connector I built for the parallel port supports up to 5 SNES pads so maybe down the road I'll build a couple more for some serious Simpson's action!

Snes APU on a PC
Published on 2005, by Raphael Assénat, ©Raphael Assénat.
One very important component inside the SNES is the Audio Processing Unit (APU). The APU is responsible for playing music and sound effects. The APU is made with a processor (SPC700), some memory (64Kb), a DSP and a Digital/Analog converter. The SNES's main CPU communicates with the APU using 4 ports.

Snes controller on a PC
Published on 2004-11-16, by Raphael Assénat, ©Raphael Assénat.
It is very convenient to be able to play SNES games on a PC with the help of an emulator, but with which controller? Why not with the real SNES controllers? I found a shematic to build an adapter to do this, and the windows driver on this site www.ziplabel.com. I followed the schematic and everything has worked perfectly.
