Six demonstrators arrested after blocking bulldozers in Um Salmuna

Published on 2007-02-28 - by Anarchists Against the Wall, ©Anarchists Against the Wall

Fifty Palestinians, Israelis and international activists managed to stop construction today during a demonstration against the wall. This is the second day in a row demonstrators confront army and police in an attempt to save village land from being destroyed for the wall. Three people were arrested yesterday – the village’s mayor and an assistant of his, who were released a few hours later, and the mayor’s son, who still remains in custody.

Over a thousand demonstrators mark two years of popular resistance in Bil’in

Published on 2007-02-23 - by Anarchists Against the Wall, ©Anarchists Against the Wall

Roughly 1,500 protesters gathered in Bil’in today to celebrate the second anniversary to demonstrations against the wall in the village. Neither the large number of attendants nor the bigger than usual participation of Israelis (over 200) deterred the army from using severe violence against the demonstrators. Even the large presence of journalists, who were attacked themselves, did not sway the army to moderation.

 Jonathan Pollak’s sentencing statement

Published on 2007-02-19 - by Anarchists Against the Wall, ©Anarchists Against the Wall

From the first moment of this trial we took responsibility for our acts. We’ve never denied, even for an instant, that we sat on the road. Quite the opposite - we fully admitted this, and we explained why we did so. The defense was revolved around two central axes - exposing the police’s lies and their invention of fictional accusations, which the court has already addressed, and on the principals of civil resistance. In its decision, the court stated that we were attempting to drag this court into the political arena, which it should avoid like fire, lest it get burned. In fact, the state prosecution was the one doing the dragging. In every crime and in every trial, the question of motive is a central one. Our so called crime is clearly a political one, and so are its motives.

Game industry’s 100 most influential women

Published on 2006-09-11 - by Fiona Cherbak, ©Future Network USA.

In advance of this week’s Women in Games International conference in Seattle, The Balancing Act: Game Industry Careers and Quality of Life, we are pleased to present our choices for the "top 100 women in games" to our readership.

While it is a known fact that the ratio of women to men working in the games industry is remarkably off-kilter, it is unclear what this data truly means to the game community. One widely-supported idea is that, by including the viewpoint and talents of women in the game development process, nothing is left to chance in terms of looking at the big picture.

Alternative Libertaire member assaulted by police in Aix-en-Provence

Published on 2006-06-08 - by Alternative Libertaire, ©Alternative Libertaire

Last week, students of the faculty of literature in Aix-en-Provence succeeded in preventing the holding of the first round of the "national university/employment debate at the university of Provence. Under cover of "addressing students’ expectations", this masquerade was intended to help Villepin improve his image after the CPE disaster. Yesterday, the second round of this national debate was held at the faculty of Law, again at the university of Provence. But this time the administration had decided to call in the heavy guns to smother all protest. The police came to filter those in attendance, letting only certain people though, with the help of a list of names.

Ukraine: Roman Kamynin - armed justice

Published on 2006-06-06 - by Network of Workplace Resistance, ©Network of Workplace Resistance

Given today’s work environment, people often have no choice but to work in substandard conditions: overcrowded work spaces, using damaged or broken down equipment. Most have to spend the majority of their day at work, doing unfulfilling work and making objects of little utility to most people. The average worker is under the complete control and often unreasonable wimsy of managers. The financial compensation received by the average worker is often not even enough to scrap out a modest existence. In other words, work today is mostly a steaming pile of dung. As if all of this wasn’t enough, there’s an especially dubious yet common practice in the former USSR, whereby companies fail to pay workers their salaries for work already completed.

Comments on the Action Proposal by the Sixth Commission of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation

Published on 2006-05-30 - by Subcomandante Insurgente Marcos,

As you may already know, in the Assembly of May 29th we presented a proposal for an Action Plan. Because of the weather and that some friends from various states had to get going, we explained it only briefly there. We think it, therefore, a good idea to explain the proposal in a bit more detail, and so we send along here these thoughts. Alright, then.

 Rebellion is Bursting into Blossom

Published on 2006 - by New York Metro Alliance of Anarchists, ©New York Metro Alliance of Anarchists

Across the world, from Global South to Global North, news of the struggle in San Salvador Atenco is spreading like a prairie fire. Even in New York City, a center of empire and a capitol of capital, we have heard of the brave resistance of the people of Atenco to a global system of terrifying violence.

Four years ago, when the people of Atenco fought from below against the incursion of an airport on their land, they captured the attention and embodied hopes of all of us who fight for autonomy and freedom. Like us, the people of Atenco fight for their own lives, but not solely their own. Their rebellion shook a free trade plan at its foundations, and has drawn a line of defense for communities across the region.

Israel-Palestine: Bil’in and the joint struggle against the wall

Published on 2006-05-22 - by anonymous, ©A-infos

The theme of today’s demo was Palestinian villages today and the Nakba of 1948.

Bil’iners and members of the Anarchists Against the Wall, as well as ISM and international activists, carried signs with the names of villages affected, cut off, or encapsulated by the occupation. Notably we carried a banner showing Dir Yassin in 1948 and Bil’in in 2006 with the title disaster in Arabic, English and Hebrew.

The army and police were already waiting for us as usual. Today (like the last 3 weeks) they were waiting in armoured vehicles, well secure behind the barbed wire barricade they set up since the protesters destroyed the yellow checkpoint gate at the fence route.

Especifismo: The Anarchist Praxis of Building Popular Movements and Revolutionary Organization in South America

Published on 2006-05-12 - by Adam Weaver, ©The Northeastern Anarchist

Throughout the world anarchist involvement within mass movements as well the development of specifically anarchist organizations is on the upsurge. This trend is helping anarchism regain legitimacy as a dynamic political force within movements and in this light, Especifismo, a concept born out of nearly 50 years of anarchist experiences in South America, is gaining currency world-wide. Though many anarchists may be familiar with many of Especifismo’s ideas, it should be defined as an original contribution to anarchist thought and practice.

Regardless of the fact that we anarchists have no illusions about the aims of the Second World War and the so-called "victory over fascism" -- which was first of all the victory of the stalinist USSR over fascist Germany -- we welcome the anti-fascist actions taking place around the 9 May holiday and report on various news agencies and the active groups» websites.

Take Back What Belongs to Us!, Subcomandante Marcos’s May 1st message

Published on 2005-05-03 - by Al Giordano, ©Uganda media

land – Mexico – where the public sees that organized criminals, corrupt law enforcers and mega-millionaires take with impunity what they want, when they want it, from anyone and everyone who has less, there is no illusion that a so-called "state of law" or "justice system" can or will right the wrongs. On Saturday, Marcos made a prosecutor’s case against capitalism and its governments, and pleaded to the jury – on Saturday it was the urban workers – to deliver the death sentence: the "expropriation of the means of production" so that, like what occurs on Zapatista farmlands today in Chiapas, those of us who do the work will own our jobs and earn the true value of our labor.

We are going to be paying attention to your demands. We call for meetings by sector and region for you to think about and agree on these actions. As the Sixth commission we are canceling all our participation in programmed activities and waiting for word from the Peoples’ Front in Defense of the Land. If they need our presence there, then there we will be. If not, we will participate directly on one of the actions that you program for tomorrow beginning at 8:00 in the morning.
